Hints for creating a safer password

  • Longer passwords are safer than short passwords,
    use at least 8 characters.
  • Combining letters and numbers is a safety gain.
  • Cryptic passwords are better than real words or names.
  • Non pronounceable episodes of consonants are more difficult to guess than artificial words: "Gtn93qckp" is better than "Elbaum78".
  • Mnemotic verses may be helpful to memorise passwords: "I got my first bike with 8 years, my car with 19 years" --> Igmfbw8yMcw19.
  • Use special characters an numbers aswell.
  • Always use different passwords for different accounts. Dont leave notes with passwords near your computer.
  • Password generators can be used as technical tools. They spit out random passwords on demand: for example "Q4ZsEv9h".
  • Change your password every few months.
